NATUREFor this photo assignment I decided to take photos of nature. I have a pond in my backyard and there are a lot of trees throughout my neighborhood, so I decided to take photos of some of the beauty of nature in winter in my neighborhood. Overall the photo shoot went pretty well. I think I incorporated some good composition elements such as texture and space into my images. I did struggle with lighting because it was a little dreary outside, but I think photoshop tools such as levels and contrast helped.

For our second photoshop assignment, we were given a photo by a former student named Noelle Jacobs and given a list of instructions on how to transform the photo in photoshop. I used features such as the clone stamp tool, levels, brush tool, crop tool, and more. I also used similar tools on a second photo that I took in downtown Ann Arbor. Both of these photos' transformations are seen below. I definitely learned a lot more about photoshop after this assignment. I learned that levels can really elevate the quality of photos and that the clone stamp tool is very useful and can totally transform an image. I was also able to better navigate throughout photoshop and work on some skills that are difficult to master such as the quick selection tool and the clone stamp tool.
Still LifeFor this photo assignment, I chose to do the category of still life and take photos of my french horn. I think the french horn is a very beautiful instrument and I was hoping to catch it's golden beauty in a creative way, whether that was through the perspective of the photo, including music, putting flowers in the bell, wrapping lights around it, etc. Summary:Still Life was definitely of of the more difficult categories in my opinion. Setting up a still life image really takes time and effort. Initially, I tried taking photos in the sunlight to capture the golden shine of the horn. I had some success in this area, seeing as how I used one of these photos for my best photo, but I definitely had some lighting and reflection issues. Later in the day, I attempted to take photos in the dark with my horn wrapped in lights. Trying to get the camera settings right for this was definitely difficult because I needed a really big aperture and slow shutter speed, which ended up giving me some motion blur, which I didn't want. Overall though, I think my shoot went pretty well, and as always I hope to learn from this experience and better my photos for next week.
Assignment DescriptionFor this assignment we were instructed to select a photo of ourselves and use photoshop to make it a pop art image. I used features such as Layers, Guides, Resizing the canvas, Threshold dialogs, and Anchor Layers. SummaryI definitely learned a lot more about photoshop after doing this assignment. I became more skilled in using the crop feature, which can be a bit finicky at times. I learned a lot more about how to work with hue and saturation to add color and flare to my photos. I also realized that photoshop will definitely be a bit of learning process for me, but practice makes perfect and hopefully my photoshop skills will continue to improve throughout the course of this trimester.
My plan for this week's photoshoot is still life. I play the French horn in the Wind Ensemble. I was inspired by it's beauty and versatility and I knew I wanted to take photos of it. I really liked the idea of setting it on a chair with a beautiful background or putting flowers in the bell to add an artistic touch. I also like the idea of getting really close and capturing the intricate details of the instrument. Another idea I had for still life was taking photos of twinkle lights. I have a really pretty setup on the headboard of my bed and I think if I got the lighting right I could get some really cool photos.
AnimalsFor my first photo assignment, I chose to do the category of animals and take pictures of my cat, Paws. Summary:
This assignment was fun, but it had no shortage of difficulties. It is quite difficult to take photos of a moving, finicky animal, especially since my goal wasn't to show motion. I had much more success when taking photos near the window with lots of light coming in. I was actually able to take some of those with the camera in manual mode. However, when I took some in the evening I had to switch my camera back to auto mode and those didn't turn out as well. This photo stood out to me because I was inspired by the use of perspective and short depth of field. Also, my cat has a similar eye color so I am going to attempt to capture something similar to this . I really liked this image because of the interesting use of a window to showcase the cat's reflection. I think it adds dimension and makes it a better photo. I am going to attempt an image similar to this with my own cat. I was inspired by this photo because my cat always seems to find the most creative hiding places, and I would love to try and capture him sulking out of one of them, similar to this image. I also appreciated their use of the rule of thirds and a short depth of field. This is my Composition project for Digital Photography 1. I took lots of notes and examined lots of pictures to learn these techniques to the best of my ability. The types of pictures were were instructed to take are listed in the slide shows below. Composition 1Composition 2What I Learned/ Reflection
I really enjoyed taking these photos and learning about lots of new composition techniques. I will now recall these as I go out and take more photos. They have definitely led me to explore new things in photography that I never had before. This was overall really fun, and I am inspired to better my photography skills. Hello! My Name is Allie, I am 15 years old, and I am a Sophomore at Saline High School. I am on the Competition Dance Team at Dance Steps Studio's and I play French Horn in the Wind Ensemble. Some of my hobbies include soccer, fashion, baking, reading, bike riding, and traveling. I am in a family of five with my Mom Jennifer, Dad Kirk, older sister Grace, and twin sister Anna. I also cannot forget my cat Paws.
I chose to take Digital Photography 1 because it seemed like a really fun class that would help me out with my technology credit and teach me something new and interesting. I have always been intrigued about this class because my sister, Grace, learned so much from it and has become quite a talented photographer as a result. I don't know much about digital photography now, but I hope to learn and grow as this trimester progresses. |
