Still LifeFor this photo assignment, I chose to do the category of still life and take photos of my french horn. I think the french horn is a very beautiful instrument and I was hoping to catch it's golden beauty in a creative way, whether that was through the perspective of the photo, including music, putting flowers in the bell, wrapping lights around it, etc. Summary:Still Life was definitely of of the more difficult categories in my opinion. Setting up a still life image really takes time and effort. Initially, I tried taking photos in the sunlight to capture the golden shine of the horn. I had some success in this area, seeing as how I used one of these photos for my best photo, but I definitely had some lighting and reflection issues. Later in the day, I attempted to take photos in the dark with my horn wrapped in lights. Trying to get the camera settings right for this was definitely difficult because I needed a really big aperture and slow shutter speed, which ended up giving me some motion blur, which I didn't want. Overall though, I think my shoot went pretty well, and as always I hope to learn from this experience and better my photos for next week.

Assignment DescriptionFor this assignment we were instructed to select a photo of ourselves and use photoshop to make it a pop art image. I used features such as Layers, Guides, Resizing the canvas, Threshold dialogs, and Anchor Layers. SummaryI definitely learned a lot more about photoshop after doing this assignment. I became more skilled in using the crop feature, which can be a bit finicky at times. I learned a lot more about how to work with hue and saturation to add color and flare to my photos. I also realized that photoshop will definitely be a bit of learning process for me, but practice makes perfect and hopefully my photoshop skills will continue to improve throughout the course of this trimester.
My plan for this week's photoshoot is still life. I play the French horn in the Wind Ensemble. I was inspired by it's beauty and versatility and I knew I wanted to take photos of it. I really liked the idea of setting it on a chair with a beautiful background or putting flowers in the bell to add an artistic touch. I also like the idea of getting really close and capturing the intricate details of the instrument. Another idea I had for still life was taking photos of twinkle lights. I have a really pretty setup on the headboard of my bed and I think if I got the lighting right I could get some really cool photos.
AnimalsFor my first photo assignment, I chose to do the category of animals and take pictures of my cat, Paws. Summary:
This assignment was fun, but it had no shortage of difficulties. It is quite difficult to take photos of a moving, finicky animal, especially since my goal wasn't to show motion. I had much more success when taking photos near the window with lots of light coming in. I was actually able to take some of those with the camera in manual mode. However, when I took some in the evening I had to switch my camera back to auto mode and those didn't turn out as well. This photo stood out to me because I was inspired by the use of perspective and short depth of field. Also, my cat has a similar eye color so I am going to attempt to capture something similar to this . I really liked this image because of the interesting use of a window to showcase the cat's reflection. I think it adds dimension and makes it a better photo. I am going to attempt an image similar to this with my own cat. I was inspired by this photo because my cat always seems to find the most creative hiding places, and I would love to try and capture him sulking out of one of them, similar to this image. I also appreciated their use of the rule of thirds and a short depth of field. |
